Lina Teresa, chef and cooking instructor in Venice since 1945. Lina grew up in the northern Lagoon, facing the islands Sant’Erasmo and Le Vignole. In 1945, returning home to Venice after the end of the war, she opened her first restaurant, located five minutes from Piazza San Marco. After opening two more restaurants focusing on inventive Venetian home cooking using organic ingredients, herbs and spices, Lina bought the former guesthouse of the Monastery San Zaccaria, after le suore tedesche – German nuns living there moved back to their home in Augsburg. Lina recreated the monastery garden and opened a small hotel in 1968. She’s particularly interested in the library featuring ancient books formerly owned by the monastery. Lina is an acclaimed cook who published her first book on Venetian food in 1981 and cooked for celebrities, politicians and the diplomatic corps stationed in Venice and Italy. For more than 30 years, two future popes (John XXIII and John Paul I) while serving as Patriarchs of Venice, were guests of the family on an almost daily basis.
